What an app does until it's updated
How much of the inner display an app gets depends on the tools its developer last built it with.
Closed
On the outer display it looks and works as it does on any iPhone.
Open, built with older tools
An app last built with Xcode 26 sits in an iPhone-shaped window on the inner display, with black borders around it.
Open, built for iOS 27
An app built with the iOS 27 SDK resizes to use more of the inner display, with some space left over.
Open, built for iOS 27.1
Only an app built with the iOS 27.1 SDK reaches the edges of the inner display and moves its bar buttons to the side. Apple calls that “optimized for iPhone Duo”.
Apps on iPhone Duo
Do iPhone apps work on iPhone Duo without an update?
Yes. Apps already on the App Store open on iPhone Duo. On the outer display an app that hasn't been updated looks as it does on any iPhone. On the inner display it sits in an iPhone-shaped window with black borders until its developer rebuilds it with the iOS 27 or iOS 27.1 SDK.
Which apps are confirmed for iPhone Duo?
Netflix, Detail, Slack, and Zoom are confirmed by Apple or checked by FoldHunt's editor. 310 more apps and games are listed on the word of their developers, most with a screenshot or video of the iPhone Duo layout.
