The best iPhone Duo apps so far (October 2026)
The apps worth installing on day one, from Apple's four launch partners to indie apps whose developers have shown a real iPhone Duo layout, picked for what they do when you open the phone.
Every app on the App Store will open on iPhone Duo. Very few of them will do anything with the second display yet. This is our list of the ones that do, or have shown that they will by October 23: apps that change when you open the phone, not just get bigger.
Nobody outside Apple has a Duo, so apart from Apple’s four launch partners, every app here comes from its developer: a post, a video or a build in Apple’s simulator. Each one links to its page on FoldHunt, where the source is cited and the label says how sure we are. We will update this page once the phone is in people’s hands.

The four apps Apple named
When it announced the phone on September 9, Apple said its own apps are optimized for iPhone Duo and named four from other developers.
- Netflix keeps a clip playing on the cover and carries it to the inner display when you open the phone. Half folded, the picture sits above the fold and the controls below it.
- Zoom puts shared content and the faces on the call side by side on the inner display, or one above the other when you hold it upright.
- Slack shows the sidebar of conversations beside the one you are reading, the layout everyone expected and the one most chat apps will copy.
- Detail is a video app built on Apple’s new on-device AI. Open, it shows a video beside its transcript.

They are on our launch partners page with what each one changed.
For work
- Craft. The notes and documents app moved its toolbar to the strip down the side of the closed cover. A co-founder said the team spent the summer getting it ready for day one.
- Kan Do. Kanban boards with the lists down the side and the columns across the open phone. Its developer posted a screenshot of it running on the inner display.
- 24me and GroupCal. Two calendars from the same team. 24me shows a task list closed and the list beside a task’s details open. GroupCal shows your groups closed and everyone’s week, with their photos, open.
- Hourfold. A calendar built for the Duo from the start: today on the cover, the month beside the day as you open it.
- Telkino. Remote control for your Mac. Half folded like a laptop, the Mac’s screen sits on the upright half with a trackpad and keys below.
- PCalc. The calculator splits its keys around the fold as you start to close the phone, then drops every key to the lower half once it’s clearly a laptop.
For reading and listening
- Inoreader. The RSS reader shows your feeds beside the article you are reading when open. Its blog says Duo support ships before the phone goes on sale.
- shelff. A PDF reader that lays a book’s spread across the open phone, with the binding on the hinge. Version 1.8, due before October 23, adds it.
- Biblio. Pick a book off a 3D shelf on the cover, then read it across the inner display.
- Tutti. Sheet music on the top half and a tuner on the bottom when the phone stands half folded. It comes to iPhone for the first time with the Duo.
- Sessionography. A jazz explorer: an artist and player on one side, the recording sessions they played on the other.
- Offly. An offline music player with the tape on one side and Up Next on the other.
For photos and video
- PhotonCam. A pro camera whose collections spread across the open phone and shrink to one photo when it shuts.
- Camarts. A photography app whose grid gets wider open, with each picture’s map and details beside or below it.
- Undolly. A photo cleaner: compare similar shots side by side open, swipe through the rest closed.
- Bezel. The screen recording editor moves its controls to the sides when the phone opens.
- Procreate Pocket. Not ready yet. Savage Interactive says it plans to support the Duo after testing, which would put a Procreate canvas on a 7.6-inch display. Apple says the Duo will support Apple Pencil with USB-C later this year.
For getting around and training
- Tripsy. The trip planner puts your list of places beside the map. Its developer says the whole app’s navigation was adapted.
- Next3Trains. UK train times: one route closed, two routes side by side open, handy for a commute with a change.
- Liftin’. The day’s exercises on one side and your sets on the other, with the plates to load drawn for each lift.
- Nunch. A calorie tracker with its ring and macros side by side when open.
To play
- Delta. The game emulator’s library reflows for the cover, open flat, standing and half folded.
- Asobi. PS5 Remote Play with the game on the upper half and a touch controller on the lower half when you hold the open phone upright.
- Letters. A daily word game whose grid and score rearrange for every fold and turn.
- SAPPER. Endless Minesweeper. The same run carries on as you fold, unfold and turn the phone.
- Vector Racer. A 90s-style polygon racer: the road above the fold, steering and pedals below.
- Nonogame. Picture logic puzzles on a bigger board when the phone is open.
- Backgammon with Buddies. The wooden board folds at its own hinge, right where the phone does.

How we picked
We left out apps that only stretch to fill the screen. Every app here does something different when the phone opens: a second pane, a layout for the half fold, controls that move off the crease. Within that, we chose apps you can already download for iPhone, plus a few whose developers have said they will ship by launch.
What none of these are yet is tested on real hardware. On FoldHunt’s pages, “Launch partner” means Apple named the app, and “Developer claimed” means the developer has shown or announced it. Once phones arrive on October 23, apps we check on a Duo get “Simulator verified” or better, and this list will change.
If an app you use isn’t here, it may be on the compatibility tracker, which follows Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, Microsoft Office and about a hundred other big names that haven’t announced anything. The full list of adapted apps is in the directory.
