Puzzles you solve without touching the screen, adapted to every pose of the Duo
Does Blackbox work on iPhone Duo?
Yes, from launch day: the developer has tested the Duo build extensively in the simulator, and the challenges and the whole interface adapt to each pose. Version 3.3 doesn't name the Duo.
- Simulator verifiedShapes and Stories, Ryan McLeod's studio and the developer, in a submission to FoldHunt on October 17, 2026, saying the challenges and every part of the interface adapt to the iPhone Duo's poses, sometimes with new ways to play, ready for launch day. In an email that followed, Ryan said the Duo build has been tested extensively in the simulator. The press kit's iPhone Duo section (blackboxpuzzles.com) shows the game on a rendered Duo closed, open, half-folded and standing as a tent. Version 3.3 on the App Store (released October 22, 2026) says "Over 100 views were rebuilt so you can fold, stretch, rotate Blackbox all day long" but doesn't name the Duo.
Adapted for the fold
- Open · Inner display
The whole grid
Open, the grid of challenges spreads across the display, and every challenge adapts to fit, some even spilling onto other screens.
- Book · Partly folded
Hints beside the puzzle
Half-folded like a book, views such as hints move to the other half of the screen, so the challenge stays in view.
- Standing · Hands-free
Challenges that play differently
Some challenges play slightly differently on the iPhone Duo. The press kit shows the Proximity challenge on the cover with the phone standing on its own as a tent.
About Blackbox
Blackbox is a puzzle game you solve with anything except touching the screen: turn the phone, whisper to it, wait for a full moon, climb a mountain. Ryan McLeod has made it alone for ten years, and its 81-plus challenges use sensors and features most people never knew their phone had, with custom sound and haptic interfaces so it can be played without sight. It won Apple Design Awards in 2017, for innovation and accessibility, and in 2024 for its Vision Pro version. It’s free to start.
For the iPhone Duo, every challenge and every part of the interface adapts to the new poses, ready for launch day, and Ryan has tested the Duo build extensively in the simulator. Open, the grid of challenges spreads across the display and each challenge adapts to fit, some even onto other screens; half-folded, hints and similar views move to the other half so the challenge stays in view; and some challenges play slightly differently on the Duo. The press kit’s Duo pictures show challenges on the cover and the open display, hints beside a puzzle with the phone half-folded, and a challenge for the phone standing as a tent.

Simulator verified · iphone-duo
Ryan McLeod, the developer, wrote to FoldHunt that the Duo build has been tested extensively in the iPhone Duo simulator and works as intended: the grid of challenges spreads across the open display, hints move to the other half when the phone is half-folded, and some challenges play slightly differently on the Duo.
Poses shown: Open, Book. These are observations of the evidence, not a test of every interaction.
App version: Not recorded in this evidence. Environment: iPhone Duo simulator.
The developer's own simulator testing, described in an email; FoldHunt hasn't seen a recording of it, and the press kit's Duo pictures are renders. The Duo build isn't in the App Store yet (version 3.2 doesn't mention the Duo).

Read the developer's submission and looked at the iPhone Duo section of the press kit: a 6-second clip of the grid of challenges as the phone opens, and pictures of the Switches challenge closed, the Proximity challenge standing as a tent, the Morse challenge open, and hints beside a Battery challenge half-folded.
Poses shown: Closed, Open, Book, Standing. These are observations of the evidence, not a test of every interaction.
App version: Not recorded in this evidence.
The press kit's Duo clip and pictures are renders on a 3D model of the phone, not captures from the simulator, and the submission doesn't say which challenges change or how. The YouTube video sent with it is the 2017 iOS trailer. Version 3.2 on the App Store doesn't mention the Duo, so no build was tested.
