A code keyboard with its own layouts for the Duo open, folded like a laptop, and closed
Does TabForge: Code Keyboard work on iPhone Duo?
Yes, and seen in simulator screenshots: open, the keyboard spans the display; folded like a laptop, your code sits above and the keys below; closed, a compact layout fits the cover.
- Simulator verifiedJeremy Collins, the developer, in a submission to FoldHunt on October 21, 2026, describing separate layouts for the Duo open, in tabletop and closed. The TabForge page on the developer's site has screenshots of all three in the iPhone Duo simulator and a 15-second overview of the Duo opening into laptop mode. The App Store description says supported Duo layouts show more controls and need iOS 27.1. The release notes for version 1.0.1 (released October 21, 2026) add a Tip Jar and don't mention the Duo.
Adapted for the fold
- Open · Inner display
The whole keyboard across the open display
Open flat, the keyboard runs the full width of the display: arrows, Ctrl, Option, Command and Esc on top, then indent and outdent beside the brackets, a number row and the letters.
- Book · Partly folded
Folded like a laptop
Stand the Duo half-folded like a laptop and the keyboard moves to the lower half, under your code. This layout adds a row with Esc, indent, outdent, Home, End and a key that deletes the line.
- Closed · Outer display
A compact layout on the cover
Closed, a narrower layout keeps the arrows, modifier keys, brackets and numbers above the letters on the cover.
About TabForge: Code Keyboard
TabForge is an open-source keyboard for writing code on iPhone and iPad. It keeps braces, brackets, the full set of ASCII punctuation, Tab and indent controls, arrows, Escape, and Control, Option and Command beside the letter keys, with saved snippets and suggestions for Swift, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Shell and JSON. Input profiles for code editors, terminals and remote desktops change how it types, and the companion app has a playground editor and voice to code. It’s free and MIT-licensed, doesn’t ask for Full Access, and has no ads, analytics or accounts; an optional Tip Jar supports it.
On the iPhone Duo it has three layouts of its own, which need iOS 27.1. Open flat, the keyboard spans the whole display. Fold the phone like a laptop and the keyboard moves to the lower half, under your code, with an extra row for Esc, indenting, Home and End. Closed, a compact layout fits the cover. Jeremy Collins, who also made Paper & Grain, shows all three in simulator screenshots on the app’s page.

Simulator verified · iphone-duo
Looked at the three iPhone Duo screenshots on the developer's TabForge page, captured in the simulator's device frame with the Duo status ring: open flat, the companion app's Playground above a full-width code keyboard; half-folded like a laptop, the code on the upper half and a keyboard with an extra Esc, Home and End row below; closed, a compact layout on the cover beside the camera. The 15-second overview shows the cover opening into laptop mode.
Poses shown: Open, Book, Closed. These are observations of the evidence, not a test of every interaction.
App version: Not recorded in this evidence. Environment: iPhone Duo simulator.
The media come from the developer's site, not the submission, and give no app or Xcode version. They show typing in the companion app's Playground, not in other apps. No build was tested.
