Bilingual stories that open like a book, the language you're learning beside your own

Does Facing Pages work on iPhone Duo?

Yes, from launch day, and seen in the simulator: closed, one page in the language you're learning; open, your own language on the facing page. It's on the App Store.

  • Simulator verifiedDM Solutions and Development, the developer, in a submission to FoldHunt on October 15, 2026, saying it will be ready on launch day, with a recording of version 1.0 in the iPhone Duo simulator on YouTube. The app is on the App Store as Facing Pages: Learn Languages (version 1.0.2, first released October 19, 2026), and its description has a "MADE FOR IPHONE DUO" section.

  • Closed · Outer display

    A pocket book

Closed, the cover shows one page of the story in the language you're learning. Tap a sentence and its translation slides up in a panel below, with read-aloud, and tap a word for what it means in that sentence.

  • Open · Inner display

    Two facing pages

Open, the story is a two-page spread: the original on the left page and your own language on the right, matched sentence by sentence. Tap a sentence on either page and its partner lights up across the fold; both pages scroll together, and read-aloud highlights each sentence on both. Each story's photo runs across both pages on its title spread, and no word lands in the crease.

  • Open · Inner display

    Upright, the pages stack

Turned upright, the story sits above the fold and your own language below it.

  • Book · Partly folded

    A book's shadow

Half-folded like a book, the shadow along the fold deepens as you close it, the way a real book's does.

About Facing Pages

Facing Pages is a reader of bilingual stories for learners of English, Spanish and French: 228 original stories set in real places, in 36 series and three levels, each opening on a photograph. Tap a sentence for its translation, tap a word for what it means in that sentence, save words with the sentence you found them in, and listen as each sentence is read aloud. The facing page can be in any of twenty languages, translated on the phone. There’s no account, no ads and no tracking; the first episode of every series is free, and Premium opens the whole library for $5.99 a month.

DM Solutions and Development, which also made Short Pencil, built it for iPhone Duo from the first page. Closed, it reads like a pocket book, one page at a time on the cover. Unfold it and the story opens across both pages, the language you’re learning on the left and yours on the right, with each sentence lit up on both sides of the fold. Close it again and your sentence comes with you. The developer’s recording on YouTube shows it in the iPhone Duo simulator. It’s on the App Store, for iPhone Duo, iPhone and iPad.

Evidence reviews

What we checked, when, and what the evidence establishes. Each record preserves the support label at that check.

Watched the developer's 73-second recording frame by frame: picking a language and level, a story read one page at a time on the cover with sentence and word lookups, then the phone unfolded into a French and English spread with linked sentences, scrolling together and read aloud, and folded again on the same sentence.

Poses shown: Closed, Open. These are observations of the evidence, not a test of every interaction.

App version: 1.0 (build 7). Environment: iPhone Duo simulator, iOS 27.1 (24A94232), Xcode 27.1 (27A9275).

The recording is set in a promotional frame with captions, and shows the phone folded shut and unfolded flat, not half-folded or turned upright; those layouts come from the developer's description. The app isn't on the App Store yet, so no build was tested.
